New BB tailpieces

After a few months of designing and fabricating, my new tailpieces are in! They are cast bronze and have a nice floral pattern with my banjo surname initialed on them. I strung my most recent 10L up with one last night and the banjo sounded great. The tailpieces add a bit more tension on the head than a no knot, which in turn gives the banjo a bit more punch. The only thing I will change is that on the next batch I will have the lower string posts placed lower on the back of the piece to make installing nylon strings a little easier. As they are now I had to string up the 3rd 1st and 5th strings first, then install the 2nd and 4th string. This way they all fit, but it is tight, so I have a little re-designing to do, but all in all I couldn’t be happier. I now have all my rim hardware available in brass and bronze, all handmade in small batches. The ball keeps rolling….oh and one cool aspect is that this piece attaches with a regular rim hook!!
